| The
1.5 hour-trip follows the
shoreline of the St. Louis River
estuary, Spirit Lake and Mud
Lake. This historic route
provides a chance to view wildlife
in its natural environment, while
enjoying the majestic beauty of
the river and surrounding area.
To
ride on a right-of-way over 130
years old with many curves,
restored coaches over 80 years
old, and a narration on history is
a priceless exposure to "how
it was" during the early
years of railroading.
The
all volunteer, non-profit railroad
operates over Burlington Northern
Santa Fee freight trackage for a
short distance, with the remaining
track owned by the city of
Duluth. The LS&M
maintains the city owned track, as
well as a portion of BNSF trackage.
