Train Route
The 1 hr 40 min trip follows the shoreline of the St. Louis River estuary, Spirit Lake and Mud Lake. This historic route provides a chance to view wildlife in its natural environment, while enjoying the majestic beauty of the river and surrounding area.
To ride on a right-of-way over 140 years old with many curves, restored coaches almost 100 years old, and a narration on history is a priceless exposure to "how it was" during the early years of railroading.
The all volunteer, non-profit railroad operates over Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight trackage for a short distance, with the remaining track owned by the City of Duluth. The LS&M maintains the city owned track, as well as a portion of BNSF trackage.
